2015 Call for Research Posters

The Research Committee of the National Conference on Keyboard Pedagogy (NCKP) is pleased to announce the call for proposals for presentations at the NCKP Research Poster Sessions in Lombard, Illinois on July 29 to August 1, 2015. The committee invites submissions from professional educators and college students.

Deadline for Submission is May 1, 2015

We are accepting submissions of:

1. Reports on research that consists of a clearly articulated research question and appropriate methodology. All aspects of keyboard pedagogy, music teaching, music learning and related subjects will be considered.

2. Reviews of empirical literature related to music and music learning that yield new insights into the discipline. Reviews should include descriptions of findings from a substantial number of original sources found in the research literature. If reviewing the topic of performance anxiety, for example, the author would collect empirical articles that have studied anxiety-coping techniques in subject populations and have measured effectiveness in some systematic way.

Authors may submit their reports or reviews to be considered for presentation. During the poster sessions, conference participants can learn about current research and discuss applications to music teaching with individual authors and reviewers.

Guidelines for Abstracts

Proposal submissions for research posters must be in the format of an abstract of approximately 750 words that provides a concise, yet thorough summary of the research. Submissions for literature reviews should be in the form a 750-word abstract with an accompanying completed bibliography.

Poster abstracts are to be submitted as Microsoft Word (.doc) documents by email attachment. Include at the top of the abstract the following:

(a) the primary author’s name and other authors’ names,

(b) current position(s) and institutional affiliation(s),

(c) mailing address, telephone number, and e-mail address (primary author only).

Selected Poster Presenters

Each presenter will prepare an approximately 40” x 40” poster that describes the research or literature review. Pin boards will be provided at the conference. At the discretion and expense of poster presenters, one-page abstracts may be distributed as handouts for both research reports and literature reviews. 50-75 copies are suggested. Abstracts will also be made available in digital form on the NCKP website during and after the conference.

Presenters must register for NCKP 2015 and be available at two research poster sessions of the NCKP Conference to discuss their findings.

A jury chosen by the NCKP Research Committee will adjudicate poster presentations during the conference. Awards of recognition for outstanding professional research and outstanding student research will be presented at the close of the conference.

The jury will evaluate research based on the following criteria: significance, relevance, research design, rigor, quality of presentation, and impact on current practices in music teaching and learning.
